Interreg Euro-MED - FRED
PROJECT TITLE: Fire Free MED
PROJECT ACRONYM: FRED
PROGRAMME PRIORITY: Greener MED
PROJECT MISSION
Protecting, restoring and valorising the natural
environment and heritage
INTERREG FUNDS: 1.905.360,83 EUR
CONTRIBUTION: 476.340,21 EUR
TOTAL BUDGET: 2.381.701.04 EUR
OVERALL OBJECTIVE
The FRED project overall objective is to implement advanced ICT/UAS (drone) tools for climate change adaptation, disaster risk prevention and mitigation in the wildfire segment at 6 public authorities in 6 MED countries (HR, SI, IT, BA, ME, EL, PT). By doing so, the project technical solutions will prevent and mitigate wildfires, strengthen resilience of the EU wildfire hotspot – MED and result in reducing risks to human lives, ecosystem degradation, habitat/biodiversity loss.
START DATE: 01/01/2024
END DATE: 01/10/2026
Focus
Areas with drought risks and heat waves are concentrated along the Mediterranean. The FRED project focuses on preventing and mitigating climate change impacts in the form of wildfires by implementing and testing advanced ICT tools supported by UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System). A significant increase in the prevention capacity of relevant authorities in six MED countries will be facilitated by the IT solution that includes prevention (dynamic fire risk maps, early warning), mitigation, analysis and communication functionalities.
