Our story

The FRED project consortium gathers 10 partners from Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Greece and Portugal.

The structure of the project is made up of several partner-types:

– scientific-type partners (CGIAM, DUTH and PFRI) in charge of data collection, processing and interpretation;

– technological-type partners (RGO and PFRI) in charge of development and implementation of the software solution, as well as operation, setup and configuration of UAVs;

– piloting partners (FRSS, RCG, NPUNA, MU, FBML, CIMBAL) which will be preparing for and executing pilot activities in order to test our solutions; as well as delivering the Common strategy and Action plans for each of the testing areas.

PFRI is the leading higher education, scientific, and research institution in the field of maritime transport and traffic engineering in Croatia. PFRI offers scientific expertise and experience in maritime and inland transportation, transport engineering, simulation and modeling, intermodal and logistics, and transport economy. Over the past years, the focus is set on innovative technologies and smart solutions for traffic monitoring, unmanned aerial vehicle operations, coastal surveillance, and ecologically friendly drive systems and materials.

FRSS has 30 years of experience in the field of firefighting, rescue and prevention in the extremely fireendangered KARST region. Employees are highly qualified wildfire instructors and also teach at the school for professional firefighters. FRSS participate in international specialized units for various types of interventions in the event of natural and other disasters.

Rocca di Cerere Geopark is recognised under the EU Rural Development Policy 2014–2020 as a Local Action Group, representing a partnership which brings together public, private and civil society organisations from the rural territory of the Province of Enna. The organization is also the responsible authority of the Rocca di Cerere UNESCO Global Geopark.

The public fire department of the City of Mali Lošinj operates in the area of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. Specific weather conditions affect the possibility of creating and spreading wildfire in hard-to-reach places, so involvement in the project will be of great importance for the development and improvement of the unit, as well as the improvement of the public safety of the islands.

The FRED project mission is to promote climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account eco-system based approaches within the Interreg Euro-MED programme.

The FRED project overall objective is to implement advanced ICT/UAS (drone) tools for climate change adaptation, disaster risk prevention and mitigation in the wildfire segment at 6 public authorities in 6 MED countries (HR, SI, IT, BA, ME, EL, PT). By doing so, the project technical solutions will prevent and mitigate wildfires, strengthen resilience of the EU wildfire hotspot – MED and result in reducing risks to human lives, ecosystem degradation, habitat/biodiversity loss.
