Strengthening Regional Cooperation for Wildfire Prevention: Presentation of the Fire Free MED – FRED project in the Municipality of Bar (Montenegro)

A strategic meeting took place in the city of Bar, bringing together the team of the Department for EU Projects of the Municipality of Ulcinj, representatives of the Project Management Sector within the Secretariat for Local Economic Development of the Municipality of Bar, and the commander of the Bar Protection and Rescue Service. The gathering provided an important platform to present the Fire Free Med – FRED project, an initiative dedicated to enhancing wildfire prevention and fire protection measures across the Mediterranean region.

During the meeting, the key objectives and innovative approaches of the FRED project were outlined, emphasizing its role in advancing climate change adaptation and disaster risk mitigation through the application of cutting-edge ICT and UAV (drone) technologies. The project aims to significantly reduce wildfire threats while protecting lives, ecosystems, and natural heritage throughout its Mediterranean partner countries.

Representatives from the Municipality of Bar and the Protection and Rescue Service expressed strong interest in supporting the project and committed to fostering ongoing communication, cooperation, and active collaboration to ensure the successful implementation of planned activities. This partnership will be essential in achieving the shared goals of enhanced fire safety and regional resilience.

The Fire Free MED – FRED project continues to drive collaborative efforts with public authorities and emergency services to strengthen wildfire prevention strategies in the Mediterranean basin.
